Observation #19
CAFE BOUQUET Its 6: AM, I ain’t one of them In their fluoro gear their high visibility reflective wear But I’m standing there Queued for coffee and breakfast pies Hardly awake with puffy eyes. Cash? he says, “ it’s rare these days” “tapping their card is how most people pay” he keys the register to release the tray fishing out coins, that’ll sit in my pocket until washing day. Now I’m back for another “a second cup please” I notice, it’s only tradies that wear shorts at zero degrees and more of them join there's a queue out the door a hazardous trail I hadn’t noticed before and with the sun rising they weren’t nearly as bright defusing ever so slightly in the natural light And I got thinking as I was drinking my strong second brew wouldn’t it be neat to try something new instead of fluoro, they’d be floral flamboyant and bold now that would stick out, if the truths to be told Orchids and daisies and roses in bloom Tulips and daffodils that would brighten the room On the hefty and hairy, the big burly guys a Health and safety bouquet what a lovely surprise It’s worth asking...right? What do you think they would say? nah..fuck it, I’ll leave it I think they’ve already brightened my day.
